Watch: Miss Universe Malta crowned European Continental Queen
Julia Ann Cluett was the only European contestant to make the top 12 at the finals.
Julia Ann Cluett, Malta's representative at the Miss Universe contest, has been crowned the Continental Queen for Europe.
Earlier on Friday, Cluett was the only European contestant to make it to the top 12 at the finals in Thailand – a first for Malta in the competition's 74-year history.
After the winner, first runner-up and other rankings are announced, Miss Universe names the top-performing contestant from each continent based on their overall placement.
Alan J. Darmanin, the national director of Miss Universe Malta, shared the news on social media.
Cluett vied with more than 120 women for the title, won by Mexico’s Fátima Bosch, who strutted to victory after the beauty pageant's host had publicly chastised her.
Thailand's Praveenar Singh and Venezuela's Stephany Abasali placed second and third, respectively, followed by the Philippines' Ahtisa Manalo and Côte d'Ivoire's Olivia Yacé.
