The tendency of many drivers to ignore traffic signs is amply manifested through video footage of a van driver who could have caused a major accident in Marsa. 

The driver of the van seen coming from the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass is first illegally overtaking a car before ignoring the stop sign leading on to the busy December 13 road.

Seeing the vehicle dash out onto the main road, another van is seen being forced to steer to the right to avoid collision, prompting the car behind to slam the brakes. The lawless driver is then forced to an abrupt halt because of the tailing traffic. 

"Times gained: Nil. Overtook car is just 10cm behind," the captioned video uploaded on You Tube says.

A reader said later that the same van made the same manoeuvre in Naxxar near Scotts on Monday afternoon.
