Updated 4.15pm - Added CPD detail

A car went up in flames in Iklin earlier this afternoon, police have confirmed.

The BMW 118 vehicle was parked on Triq Geronimo Abos when it caught fire at 1.46pm. 

Police and Civil Protection Department officials were both alerted. 

A CPD spokesman said two firefighting units were rushed to the scene. It took 1,200 litres of water and one dry powder fire extinguisher to put out the flames. 

"There was a risk that the fire could spread, but our units brought it under control in time," the spokesman said. 

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
