A collection of watercolours by 10 of the island's leading artists has been put together in a book that will serve as a platform to promote Maltese art.
Named 10 Watercolourists, the book is being launched tomorrow night at Gallery G in Lija during the opening of an exhibition of the artists' work, by the same name.
The painters are John Martin Borg, Jeni Caruana, Debbie Caruana Dingli, Anna Galea, Anna Grima, John Grima, Tonio Mallia, Andrew Micallef, Maurice Tanti Burlò and Kenneth Zammit Tabona.
All 10 are well-established names and represent current artistic trends in the country. An interesting feature is the fact that one of each artist's exhibits is a self-portrait.
The high-quality, 112-page publication, sponsored by Bank of Valletta, offers a foreword to each artist's section by a leading art critic together with an autobiography.
"The bank is delighted to be associated with this unique publication and the related exhibition featuring 10 of Malta's avant-garde 'Watercolourists'," Michael Galea, BOV head of public relations, said. "We consider ourselves to be among the leading patrons of the arts and culture in Malta," he added.
