'A PN government will put people at the centre of its politics’: Alex Borg
Borg says PN would protect hobbies and traditions
Alex Borg promised on Wednesday "a vision where the people are at the heart of politics" and "a vision where the party will build a stronger nation and bring back those who lost faith in politics".
Addressing a political activity in Imqabba, the PN leader said the party’s manifesto was not simply a manifesto, but a vision for a new government to clean up the issues the PL government had created.
Borg said the party today was a renewed one, with a team of excellent candidates, both new and experienced.
During Wednesday’s event, Borg commended the work of NGOs and voluntary organisations that strive to keep Maltese traditions and culture alive.
“We will safeguard the country's pastimes,” he said.
“This party will protect and strengthen what is Maltese, Gozitan, and part of our identity.”
In October, parliament killed a proposed law by the PN to enshrine the right to a healthy environment in Malta's constitution, after critics raised concerns that it could be used to launch lawsuits attacking activities like village feastas, hunting and sport events.
On Wednesday, Borg shot down claims that the party will not protect hobbies and traditions.
He referred to proposals aimed at supporting NGOs, such as a 15% discount on utility bills and the removal of meter rent for NGOs. Registered NGOs and voluntary organisations would also get a full VAT refund on mission-related costs.
The PN leader also addressed those who were still undecided on who to vote for on May 30. He said the PN will be there for families, pensioners and all Maltese and Gozitans.
He referred to the two debates he has participated in during this electoral campaign, saying viewers could see the difference between the two parties.
“On one side, you see negative politics, a politics known for its attacks, hostility and the status quo. On the other side, there is a party that promises vision and is prepared with a strong team,” he said.
Present at the rally were the PN candidates running for the 5th district, Tony Bezzina, Duncan Borg Myatt, Conrad Borg Manche, Miriana Noto De Testaferata Calleja, Stefan Caruana, Oliver Cini, Owen Sciberras and Stanley Zammit.
