‘We weren’t told’: Msida council protests lack of consultation on new bridge
Local council calls for urgent meeting with Transport Minister
Msida Local Council on Friday called for an “urgent” meeting with Transport Minister Chris Bonett after learning about the proposed pedestrian bridge across Triq Marina through media reports.
In a social media post, the local council insisted it had not been consulted about this latest development to the Msida Creek project and only found out once the announcement was made on Thursday evening.
“We would like to inform residents that, until the announcement made yesterday evening, the Msida Local Council was completely unaware of the pedestrian bridge announced by the minister,” the council wrote on its Facebook page.
It added it could not accept that residents are not consulted on a development of this nature, especially as it was revelead overnight.
“It would have expected at the very least to be informed beforehand,” the council continued.
Bonett announced the traffic lights across Triq Marina opposite the two Kulleġġ bus stops will be replaced by a pedestrian bridge improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
He said he was taking up a suggestion made by the Junior College student council who visited him recently. The two bus stops are heavily used by students on a daily basis.
