I was displeased to see the President's wife, Mrs de Marco, wearing a fur coat at the formal Mass of New Year's Eve at St John's Co-Cathedral. Does it still represent elegance to wear a carcass of tortured animals!?

During these last weeks on our roads one could see posters of a model sponsored by a perfumery. At an interview by a TV station, she declared that she knows that certain fur is derived from dogs, etc. (as if foxes or minks do not feel too) but she loves wearing fur!

Such comments can only be considered pathetic. To close one's eyes for the sake of fashion, to what is one of the cruellest industries today, I can never understand.

I expect much more from those in the public eye. Show some compassion!
