Weather, maintenance cause long delays at Mġarr ferry harbour

Two out of four ferries operating, passing from behind Comino

Updated 8.35am - No fast ferry service till afternoon

Gozo ferry commuters reported long delays at Mġarr harbour on Friday morning, as only two of the four vessels were operating in the busy early hours.

The inclement weather made the delays worse, as the ferries are taking the longer route, passing from behind Comino.

Those in line waiting to board the ferry, hoping to make it in time for work or an appointment, said the lines they encountered were not normal for a Friday morning.

The MV Gaudos is currently out of service. The ferry is undergoing dry-dock maintenance and will only return to the daily routes on February 5.

The MV Nikolaos, meanwhile, does not operate in the early hours.

According to the Met Office in Luqa, sea conditions on Friday are expected to remain rough and will only become moderate by the evening.

The delays caused the 6.45am service, among others, to depart an hour late.

No fast ferry service till afternoon

Meanwhile, the fast ferry service operator said there will be no trips in the morning.

The service will resume in the afternoon.

The first trip from Valletta will be at 2.45pm, while the first trip from Mġarr is scheduled for 3.45pm.
