Welsh choir to perform in Malta next week

Choir enjoys a varied calendar of events, from singing at regional and international rugby matches to performing and competing at regional and national choral festivals

It is performing at the Saluting Battery Valletta on April 8 at 11am and later at the Valletta Dominican church at 1pm and at the Mosta Basilica on April 9 at 6pm.

On Friday, April 10, the choir, hosted by the JP2 Foundation, will go to Gozo where it will perform an open-air recital on the steps of the Gozo Cathedral at 2.30pm.

The following day, the choir will be present at another open-air recital in Bastion Square, Mdina, at 1.30pm and then at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, just a few metres away, at 2pm.

The choir was formed in 2006 as part of the S4C series Codi Canu, which aimed to encourage rugby supporters to bring traditional Welsh singing back onto the rugby terraces. Many members had never sung in a choir before, but found the experience so positive that, although Codi Canu ended in 2008, the choir continued to grow and develop.

The choir now has over 120 members. Choir membership is open to all, regardless of age, gender, religion or ethnicity.

It enjoys a varied calendar of events, from singing at regional and international rugby matches to performing and competing at regional and national choral festivals.
