The first Westfield sports car in Malta was officially launched by the British High Commissioner Howard Pearce, at Villa Degiorgio, his residence in San Pawl tat-Targa, and can be seen at the British pavilion at the trade fair, which closes today.
These renowned British sports cars are being imported to Malta by Galaxy Motots Ltd.
Westfield is a specialist sports car manufacturer based in the West Midlands since 1982.
It was a pleasant surprise for all those who braved the traffic on Wednesday and attended a reception given by Mr Pearce at his residence on the occasion of UK Day at the 45th International Fair of Malta.
Sitting on the beautiful green lawn was this bright yellow, purely British sports car, the Wesfield Speed Sport 1800.
Mr Pearce invited everyone to visit the British pavilion where the Westfield sports car is now on display along other British cars like the Jaguar and the Rover.
The British stand this year has three main themes: motoring, technology and food, and the car on his lawn was a good example of Britain's success in the sports car manufacturing industry, he said.
Mr Pearce later proceeded to unveil the car which was partly covered with a Union Jack. His love for sports cars was evident when he sat behind the wheel, started the engine and drove a couple of metres forward and back, sounding its 1800cc Ford Zetec engine producing 155bhp@4,750 rpm and 178 Nm of torque at 5,200 rpm.
The car, which weighs 600 kg, is available both as factory-built starting at Lm21,400, or in kit form. The Speed Sport 1800 has a Ford Zetec engine producing 155bhp at 4,750 rpm.
