Westfield no match for Marsa
Locals win as touring season starts
Marsa chalked up their first victories against touring sides this year when they beat Westfield Saints, of England, twice in 20-over matches on Saturday.
In the opener, Westfield batted first and were off to a flying start with Matt Lock scoring 40 runs before being stumped.
He hit two 4s and a 6 along the way.
After Lock's innings, Glenn Jennings (12), Shane Murphy (17), Matt Garritty (12) and Omar Khan (10) also made it to double figures.
Westfield failed to settle down and were bowled out in the 18th over for a total of 128 runs. For the home side, Andy Naudi took three wickets and Andy Lenard two.
The Marsa batsmen made the required runs in their 18th over.
Nowell Khosla scored 21 as Derek Ali (43 not out) and Andy Naudi (33 not out) guided the home side to victory.
For Westfield, Glenn Jennings took two wickets.
Marsa fielded a completely different team for the second game and Westfield made nine changes.
The visitors again batted first. Oakley was their top scorer with 18 runs as J. Price added 17 and Norris 13 in a modest total of 92 runs.
Marsa bowled well with Nadem Butt, Will Nichols and Justin Brooke all taking two wickets each.
A fine opening innings from Anthony Roberts, 48 runs not out, paved the way for the home team's victory.
Sam Aquilina made seven runs, Butt three, Javed Shah 19, Will Nichols four and Joy Ghoseroy aided Roberts in completing the win with four runs not out.
Next Saturday, the Captain's XI take on Chairman's XI at 11 a.m.
