November was slightly warmer and wetter than usual with an average temperature of 17.5°C and a total rainfall of 182mm, the Malta Airport Meteorological Office said.

The rainfall was 102mm more than the November norm while the temperature was 0.5°C above average.

The wettest November on record was in 1999 when rainfall hit 420.3mm.

Meanwhile, the hottest November day on record was November 6, 1982 when the temperature hit 28.2°C. The hottest day last month was the 7th, which saw a high of 25.2°C.

The 28th was the coldest day with a maximum temperature of 13.8°C. This followed a period from November 22 to 28 which saw the mean temperature decrease well below the mean due to a series of cold fronts that brought cold air from the northern continent.

Last month thunder was heard on 11days - seven days more than the norm for November. Hail was observed on the November 26 and 28.

The mean sea temperature was 22.3°C which is warmer than the November norm of 20.3°C. The monthly mean relative humidity reached 72 per cent, which is less than the climate norm of 78 per cent.

The mean wind speed for November 2013 was 8.9 knots which is almost equal to the mean of 8.8 knots. A gust of 43 knots from the west southwest was recorded on November 5. The most frequent direction for this month was southwest by west.

Last November there was an average 5.8 hours of bright sunshine a day. This was less than the November norm of 6.1 hours. The brightest days November 18 and 30 with no sunshine.

In total, Malta had 175.3 hours of bright sunshine last month.
