Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) has focused its election campaign on garnering enough votes in one or two districts to enable it to gain a presence in Parliament. The Labour Party purses its lips in gleeful ignorance while the Nationalist Party panics that voting for AD will dilute its strength - both are correct, since polls have consistently shown that AD siphons off votes from the Nationalists, mainly.

Picture a situation, as AD would like to believe, where both parties get an equal number of seats and AD holds the balance of power with one seat. The power which the AD parliamentarian would have would be colossal. That one individual would enable AD to dictate to its coalition 'partner'. One person who can single-handedly influence any government decision or direction.

The first issue where the major party has to compromise because of this threat to its holding on to power will be the first seed sown towards individual corruption.
