A road traffic licence "points system is to be introduced on the lines of those successfully introduced in the United Kingdom and other EU countries.

Once again we are "pussy footing". By making it applicable only to newly qualified drivers, Minister Censu Galea and his advisers are missing a major point!

It is not the new and younger driver that is the great danger but the established and far too often "over-confident" drivers. Ask any of the experienced European traffic law administrators.

Time and time again it is all to easy to jump on the young and less experienced motorists.

As a driver myself of some 50 years' standing, added to which I have some 14 years of hair-raising experience on our roads in Malta, I feel ideal to make this comment.

No Mr Galea, this has to be a total once and for all, one fell swoop on the drivers of all ages or class who choose to go against the basic rules of the highway and put us "all" in grave danger.

Get to the "point". Get us all in this net once and for all.
