I refer to Thomas Zerafa’s letter ‘Inner life’ (January 17). He was referring to an encyclopaedic run and exchange of letters for a span of over six years. I agree with Fr Renè Camilleri that everyone strives to abide by the dictates of an inner life that has purpose or meaning.

But when you have a lone dissident dedicated to a core mission of debunking anything Catholic, Christian and divine, there is no goodwill involved and he is certainly not set out on the path to holiness (the God of his choice).

His impressive appetite to besmear the predominant Christian heritage of the local population is surely not conducive to a peaceful inner quest to find his God.

On reading John Guillaumier’s latest swipe at the Church (‘Priestly pomp’, January 18), I realised that “Restraining him is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand” (Proverbs 27:16). Instead, I plead to the editor to publish nearly every letter I write to have a more equitable balance in the letters column. I would like to transform the existing trio to a quartet, not for vain glory or for a collateral testament but for fairness’s sake. Out of his three penfriends, one is invading his paper and the other is infesting it.

I may sound preachy and pedantic but my whole purpose of this letter is to help those who genuinely seek God to begin, continue or complete the journey.

So, come, then, follow Him, seek Him, do not let that unapproachable brightness and glory hold you back from seeking Him (Bernard of Clairvaux). When home, you will be wholly possessed by the Divine Beloved, vibrating at the Spirit’s touch and resting filially within the Father’s heart.
