The White Tower and a Pill Box dating back to the time of the British have been passed on to the Mellieha council.
Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi said during the devolution ceremony that this was a policy the government believed in to make the best use of councils' experience and enthusiasm while safeguarding the country's cultural heritage.
Mellieha mayor Robert Cutajar said his council was working with all involved to continue improving the tourism package offered by the village.
The White Tower was built in 1658 and is the sixth tower of 13 built by Grandmaster Martin de Redin as a system of defence around the Maltese coast.
This was the third tower built in Mellieha following those of Ghajn Tuffieha and the Red Tower.
