We would like to clarify a couple of points made in the article "Who's that girl?" by Saviour Testa (Weekender, July 6).

Mr Testa has misinterpreted Ira Losco's aspirations to succeed overseas. Ira Losco is happy with what she has achieved locally.

Malta may not be LA or London but this is where her story begins. She is grateful to the Maltese public and all the people who have supported and believed in her from the beginning, when she was still a budding singer, and as they continue to do today.

She considers her second placing in the Eurovision song contest as another stepping stone in her career and by no means is it the be-all and end-all.

Like most local artistes, she aspires for more and is working to develop her career further but it takes time and a lot of hard work to make a significant breakthrough.

It is also clear that Mr Testa is not aware of the intricacies and details of the contract that automatically binds the artiste when he/she wins the Song for Europe Festival in Malta.

Maybe this explains his eagerness to see Ira Losco establish herself overseas.

It would have been appreciated if Mr Testa had taken a comment from Ira Losco. We believe she would have helped him shed more light on the development of events so far.

We also feel the presentation of the article on the front page of the Weekender was misleading in that it led people to believe this was an interview when in fact Mr Testa made no effort whatsoever to contact Ira Losco.

We trust Mr Testa will remedy this oversight and allow Ira Losco to express her views in the near future.
