I cannot but join other Tarxinizi who from time to time write to the press complaining about works of art being neglected in our beloved village.
The last mentioned are the Dejma cross and the two spiral columns made up of a single piece of stone which once decorated our parish church. Both items have been left to deteriorate in our cemetery.
One cannot ignore other works of art or historic pieces scattered here and there, mostly in our parish church, consisting of ornaments like candlesticks, crucifixes, liturgical vestments, paintings and so forth. These are kept hidden in wardrobes and large drawers, out of public sight. Not to mention also manuscripts and documents related to the history of our parish.
This leads me to a simple question. Could it be possible to keep such works of art in a local museum? Could the local council and the clergy put their heads together and find a place which can serve for such a noble purpose?
In Tarxien there are various uninhabited spacious houses which can be transformed into a museum, so these works of art could be kept secure and at the same time appreciated by local and foreign visitors.
