The Save Wied Garnaw Action Group has expressed satisfaction at the second rejection by the Development Control Commission (DCC) of the application to build a waste separation plant in Wied Garnaw.
The group said this case highlights the need for the government to amend the Development Act so that applications which are turned down may not be reconsidered. Currently, applications which are turned down may still be submitted for reconsideration within a month, and if they are once again refused, the applicant may then appeal the decision.
Such a situation enables applicants to keep exerting pressure in the hope that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority will eventually grant them a development permit, it said.
This also leads to a lot of waste of resources by Mepa: when an application is reconsidered or an appeal is submitted, Mepa has to carry out the whole application process once again, the group maintained.
