Wied iż-Żurrieq linked to the sewage system in €3m project
The area had to date relied on cesspits.
Wied iż-Żurrieq has been connected to the national sewage network, marking a key phase in a €3m project by the Water Services Corporation. The area had to date relied on cesspits.
The project has seen the sewage network extended from Qrendi and Żurrieq, requiring several kilometres of trenching works.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said this was a clear example of how infrastructure investment improved the quality of life while protecting the environment.
This project improved the people's quality of life, safeguarded the valley, the sea, groundwater, and the surrounding communities.
The works included the building of a new pumping station, the laying of 1.6km of electrical cable to power the pumping station, the renewal of 1km of potable water main, the installation of over 1km of wastewater gravity main, and the laying of more than 4km of wastewater rising mains. More than 3,000 square metres of tarmac reinstatement has been completed.
WSC CEO Karl Cilia said this project is part of WSC's national investment plan of €377 million, which is upgrading water and wastewater infrastructure across Malta and Gozo.
