Wind instruments from around the world

The World Wind Band will combine traditional wind instruments from various parts of the world for a concert to be held at the Manoel Theatre on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m.

The band is formed of Dirk Campbell and Jan Hendrickse, with bass flute player Nathan Thompson and percussionist Tim Garside.

The performance will be held by courtesy of the British Council.

The World Wind Band presents arrangements of ethnic wind traditions encompassing Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Their repertoire employs numerous wind instruments most of which are excitingly new to our ears such as folk flutes, reed pipes and bagpipes.

The World Wind Band is partly a vehicle for the demonstration of traditional musical skills and partly a vehicle for new combinations. It is also a medium for broader collaborative and educational projects.
