Wind, rain and storms to hit midweek before improvement for Easter weekend
Possible hail forecast from Tuesday as low-pressure system moves across central Mediterranean
Unsettled weather is set to take hold across Malta from Tuesday, with strong winds, rain and thunderstorms expected to persist through much of Holy Week before conditions gradually improve in time for the Easter weekend.
Tuesday will see a marked deterioration in conditions, with windy and rainy weather accompanied by thunderstorms and possibly hail, particularly during the day.
Temperatures are expected to reach a high of around 15°C, dropping to 9°C overnight, with fresh to strong westerly winds, the Met Office said.
The change in weather is being driven by a low-pressure system over the Tyrrhenian Sea, pushing unstable air and stronger winds across the central Mediterranean, including Malta.
The unsettled spell is expected to continue into Wednesday and the following days, with windy conditions and further showers likely, potentially impacting preparations and outdoor activities linked to Holy Week.
While conditions may begin to ease slightly by Good Friday, some instability could still linger, raising the possibility of disruptions to traditional processions held across towns and villages.
A noticeable improvement is expected heading into the weekend, with Easter Sunday likely to bring more stable weather, including lighter winds, lower chances of rain and temperatures recovering to around 16–17°C.
Overall, while the first half of Holy Week will be dominated by wind, rain and occasional stormy spells, a clear improvement is forecast by the weekend, offering more favourable conditions for Easter celebrations.
