The Badminton Malta competitive season began recently with the first matches from the H2Only Mixed League. Several amendments have been made to the format with the intention of enhancing the balance between teams.

The top two clubs - Pawla Wolves Schtag and Birkirkara BC - will be contesting the Premier Division title. Their first teams will be playing each other five times to determine a winner.

Other teams from various clubs will be playing in two inferior divisions. Each fixture consists of five games - men's and ladies' singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

The first Premier Division fixture saw the Wolves beating Bir-kirkara 4-1. Birkirkara won the opening men's singles through captain Stefan Salomone. He beat Wolves' Indian player Yogesh Mistry 21-12, 21-16.

However, the Paolites quickly levelled the score when their Dutch player Didi Rasamayii beat Maria Borg 21-8, 21-2.

In the men's doubles, Stefan Salomone and Aldo Polidano lost to Wolves duo David Cole/Yogesh Mistry - 15-21, 21-12, 21-19.

Schtag then put the match beyond their opponents by taking also the ladies' doubles in which Catherine Dimech/Didi Rasamayii beat Rachel Attard/Fiorella Farrugia 21-12, 21-13.

The remaining mixed doubles only served to underline Wolves' superiority, with Kenneth Vella/ Catherine Dimech winning against Aldo Polidano/Fiorella Farrugia 21-17, 21-11 to give an overall 4-1 result for the Paolites.
