Alleged thief accused of grabbing wallet from car as man dropped son at school

The wallet contained €300

A 38-year-old Qormi woman suspected of stealing a wallet from a car was  remanded in custody after arraignment on Tuesday.

Julie Galdes was accused of theft, committing an offence during the operative period of a suspended sentence and recidivism.

It is understood that the alleged victim parked his vehicle and left the window slightly open while dropping off his son at school. The woman put her hand through the window and stole the wallet containing €300.

In court, Galdes initially pleaded guilty but changed her mind upon being warned about the legal consequences of her plea, withdrawing the plea.

No bail was requested at this stage and she was remanded in custody. 

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech presided. AG lawyer Miguel Taliana prosecuted assisted by police inspector John Sammut. Legal aid lawyer Maria Karlsson appeared for the accused.
