A Bulgarian woman this morning denied in court that she had stolen €21,000 in cash from a 79-year-old woman.

Mariya Petrova, 50, was remanded in custody after being accused of stealing the cash from a bag belonging to Neta Netsova, 79, in the baggage claim area at Malta airport on March 26.

Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca, prosecuting, said the accused had heard the victim say she was carrying the cash while they were abroad, and she stole it from the bag when they arrived in Malta while the bag was being checked for a broken wheel.

The cash stemmed from the sale of a property. It has not been recovered.
