A 47-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to cocaine and heroin trafficking.
The woman, who cannot be named by court order, is accused of possessing the drugs in circumstances that indicated they were not for personal use.
She is also charged with committing the alleged offences within 100 metres of a place frequented by youths, breaching a probation order issued in April and recidivism.
Police inspector Gabria Gatt told the court that officers suspected the woman was trafficking drugs from her apartment in Triq id-Denfil, St Paul's Bay. When police knocked on her door, no-one answered but officers later found her inside.
After being informed of a search, she allegedly handed over more than 70 sachets containing a brown substance believed to be heroin and a white substance believed to be cocaine.
The drugs have a street value of around €20,000.
She was discharged on Thursday morning and arraigned later.
Bail was not requested. However defence lawyer José Herrera asked that she be held at the Forensic Unit. The court heard that the woman had given a statement and was co-operating with investigators.
A request for a freezing order was withheld.
Magistrate Ann Marie Thake presided. Lawyer Julian Scicluna prosecuted for the Attorney General. Lawyer Jose Herrera appeared for the accused.
