Woman assaulted by partner for going to the 'wrong' tattoo parlour
The couple had agreed that she would get a tattoo at a particular studio but instead she went somewhere else.
A 31-year-old maintenance worker has pleaded guilty to slightly injuring his partner after she got a tattoo from a different parlour than the one they had agreed she would go to.
The Fgura man appeared before Magistrate Charmaine Galea where he was accused of assaulting the woman, causing her to fear violence would be used against her, threatening her over an electronic device, and insulting her.
The pair had been together for a year and a half.
The couple had agreed that she would get a tattoo at a particular studio but instead she went somewhere else.
The court explained the legal consequences of the admission and that the accused was facing up to four years in prison and/or fine of €25,000.
Lawyer Franco Debono, appearing for the victim, said that she was not insisting on effective imprisonment but would like the court to issue a restraining order to protect her. The lawyer said that the woman just wanted to be left in peace.
Police inspector Christian Cauchi requested a suspended sentence and a fine, as well as a restraining order in favour of the woman and her son since the accused had allegedly threatened her that “she would not see her son."
The court issued a ban on the names of the parties to protect the identity of the woman’s minor son.
The man was handed a 12-month prison term suspended for three years. He was also fined €200.
A three-year restraining order was issued in favour of the woman and her relatives.
Police inspector Christian Cauchi prosecuted. Lawyer Roberta Bonello appeared for the accused. Lawyers Franco Debono and Anthea Bonnici Zammit appeared for the alleged victim.
