A 32-year-old woman has been handed a suspended sentence after admitting to driving without a licence.
Iriceth Vanessa Carabia Araujo, a Venezuelan national, was driving along Triq id-Dejma in Fgura on Thursday when she was stopped by police.
In court on Thursday, the defence asked the court to approach the bench where they discussed the case out of earshot.
Later, the court was informed that the woman would plead guilty to the charges brought against her.
She was accused of breaching a set of bail conditions imposed on her on October 11, 2017, after she was caught driving without a licence and insurance cover.
The court handed the woman a six-month prison term, suspended for a year. It also ordered that she forfeit €500 from her bail deposit.
In 2015, Carabia Araujo had been charged, along with Anays Cecile Gonzalez Estribi, with importing cocaine and conspiracy to traffic drugs.
The pair, who were students at the time, were arraigned in court after drugs were found in hidden compartments of their suitcase.
Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace presided.
Police inspectors Gabriel Kitcher and Karen Cassar prosecuted.
Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the accused had been caught driving without a licence in 2017.
