A 57-year-old woman is in critical condition after having been saved from drowning this morning, the police said.

The incident happened just before noon at St Paul's Bay.

The woman, who is from St Paul's Bay, was carried to shore by other swimmers who had noted her face down in the water.

She was given first aid by a doctor who happened to be on site. Assistance was later given by Civil Protection employees and a medical team.
