Woman finds birth mother after emotional public appeal

‘Happiness, pure happiness’: Bugeja says emotional appeal helped her find her mother

A woman who asked for the public's help to track down her birth mother has had that dream fulfilled in just two days.

Maria Carla Bugeja is now due to meet her biological mother later this week.

Her quest attracted public attention after it was promoted on social media by Birżebbuġa vice mayor Josette Busuttil.

On Tuesday, the 28-year-old was told that her lifelong dream had come true, that her appeal to find the mother who gave her up at birth had worked.

“Happiness, pure happiness. I had tears of joy when I found out,” Bugeja told Times of Malta.

She credited Busuttil for helping her locate her long-lost mother.

“This was possible thanks to Josette, who has been working day and night since she found out about my story,” said Bugeja.

Busuttil shared the news in a social media post, celebrating the outcome of their efforts.

“Thanks to a small but deeply meaningful message, after 28 years, Maria Carla will finally be able to embrace her mother for the first time, a moment so touching that words cannot do it justice,” said Busuttil.

She also thanked members of the media and the public for helping share Bugeja’s story.

“Your dedication, time, and kindness have brought new hope and lasting joy to Maria Carla and to all those close to her.”

Bugeja said she has already spoken to her newly found aunt and plans to meet her biological mother for the first time this week.

She previously shared that she has been searching for her mother since she was six years old, but her efforts were blocked by her adoptive parents, with whom she no longer has a relationship.

Her public appeal had one simple plea: “Mum, if you are seeing this please don’t be scared to contact me. I miss you so much and all I want to do is give you a big hug."
