A 66-year-old woman from Rabat is in a critical condition after she was hit by a car in Qormi in the early hours of yesterday morning, the police said.

The accident occurred in Mdina Road at about 1 a.m.

The woman was run over by Suzuki Super Carry, driven by a 47-year-old man from Pietà, who was travelling in the direction of Zebbug.

The police said the woman was taken to hospital, where she was found to be suffering from serious injuries while the driver was treated for shock.

The case is being investigated by the Qormi district police. Duty Magistrate Anthony Vella appointed various experts to assist with the inquiry.
