Police investigations and magisterial inquiry underway
A 31-year-old Colombian woman living in Birkirkara died in a traffic accident in St Julian’s in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The collision occurred at around 3am in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli and involved a Kia Picanto driven by a 21-year-old man from Marsascala and a TVS Jupiter motorcycle ridden by the victim.
The woman was immediately assisted by a medical team but was certified dead shortly afterwards.
The victim was identified as Angie Merlen Mesa Gonzalez.
She was praised by the management and staff of Pupi Pizzeria, where she worked, as a very capable manager and a big part of the company's success.
"The news and loss are very difficult for all of us," they said
."We have lost a capable employee but above all we have lost a dear friend. We love you Angie and we will never forget you. Thank you for everything you have done for us. ❤️"
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia was informed of the case and has appointed a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
She was the 18th person to die on Malta's roads this year, as traffic accidents continue to take their toll.
