Woman slightly injured in domestic argument

Her partner also claims to have been injured

A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to causing slight injuries to the mother of his child.

The man, from Żurrieq, was accused of assault, causing the woman fear that violence would be used against her, insulting her and damaging her car.

Police inspector Sherona Buhagiar explained that the woman reported her partner to the Domestic Violence Unit on Monday morning, telling the officers that she had been assaulted and insulted during an argument. She presented a medical certificate that showed she had sustained slight injuries.

The accused was arrested, and he filed a police report, saying that it was a two-way argument where he too was injured.

The woman is set to face similar charges.

The man admitted the charges.

After hearing the submissions on punishment, the court handed him a one-year prison term suspended for two years. He was ordered to pay €212 within two months for the damages to the woman’s car.

A three-year treatment order was also imposed. A restraining order was issued in favour of the victim.

The court issued a ban on the names due to the fact that they share a minor. Magistrate Jean Paul Grech presided.Police inspector Sherona Buhagiar prosecuted.Lawyers Franco Debono, Adreana Zammit and Anthea Bonnici Zammit appeared for the accused.
