The foundation stone of the €67 million Bordeaux project entitled Cité des Civilisations du Vin – dubbed the ‘Wine City’ – was laid.

The project, due to be completed in 2016, is expected to attract approximately 500,000 visitors a year.

It is also expected to generate €40 million each year and create 750 jobs – on top of the €30 million generated and 600 jobs created in the next three years of its construction.

The region already attracts about 3.3 million visitors each year and Bordeaux was recently voted the second most desirable city in France to live – after Paris.

In addition to the newly developed Wine City itself, the surrounding areas will get more restaurants, new dockside apartments and a maritime museum, all in proximity of the new Jacques Chaban-Delmas Bridge.
