Work on the afforestation project at Salina Park, launched in October with the planting of 2,000 trees and sponsored by the HSBC Cares For the Environment Fund, has continued. Following the planting of trees, staff from the Ministry of Rural Affairs and the Environment have now installed an automatic irrigation system and have also fenced off the area to protect the new trees during the early stages of their growth.
"This is good news and important to ensure the trees are given every chance to take root and grow into another wooded area in Malta," HSBC chief executive Shaun Wallis said.
The next phase of the 'Tree 4 u' campaign will continue next month when HSBC Cares For the Environment Fund will once again be involved in another major tree planting event in another part of Malta.
