The ninth annual seminar series, Work in Progress in the Social Studies, starts on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Room 124, Mediterranean Institute, with Professor Hedi Bouraoui, head of the Department of French Studies and founder of the Canada-Maghreb Centre at York University, Ontario, Canada.

The lecture will be on "The Transcultural Novel in a Post-colonial World". Professor Bouraoui, a Tunisian, is a specialist in the literature of the Maghreb, French Canada, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Novelist, poet, and scholar, recipient of many literary prizes in Canada, France and Tunisia, he is also an Officier de L'Ordre des Palmes Academiques.

Professor Bouraoui will place experimental writing in the Maghreb and the Caribbean in the context of Globalisation and Transculturalism.
