Two injured in separate construction site falls

Accidents in Mellieħa and Sta Venera reported within hours of each other

Two men were injured in separate construction site accidents on Monday morning.

The police said the first happened at about 4am in Mellieħa when a 43-year-old man from Gharghur entered a building under construction in Main Street, and fell.

He was assisted by a medical team and rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and hospitalised. His condition was described as serious.

The second accident occurred in Canon Bonnici Street at around 8.30am. when a worker fell from the third-floor balcony of a building under construction. He was seriously injured and hospitalised. His identity is not known yet. 

A magisterial inquiry has been called and an investigation is also being held by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority.
