Works begin on new Mellieħa garden

Works to build a new garden in Mellieħa have begun, the government announced on Saturday.

The garden, in the residential Triq il-Għasel, is being built on a stretch of land of about 2,000 square metres.

Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and the Mellieħa Local Council visited the site on Saturday morning.

Currently, excavation works are taking place for a three-level reservoir with a capacity of approximately 380 cubic metres for the irrigation of the garden, a statement from Dalli’s ministry said.

The excavation works will also help prepare the base of the garden, project manager Chiara Darmanin said.

Building the garden will cost roughly €1.5 million, and the project will include various pathways, educational workshops and public facilities.

The project also includes the planting of 64 trees and 150 shrubs.

“Project after project, we are continuing to improve our environment and the quality of life of people in their localities. At the same time, we are fulfilling our promise to provide more open spaces in different areas close to residents,” Dalli said.

The Mellieħa garden is one of 19 projects that the government agency is currently working on.
