The World Bank yesterday presented a report on pension reform to the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

The constituted bodies, together with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Finance Minister John Dalli, met at the Mediterranean Conference Centre for the presentation.

Sources said the presentation was a technical one during which a World Bank official presented scenarios of how different systems would impact the welfare system.

The report is to be forwarded to the constituted bodies in the coming days with a discussion to follow later.

The government had presented a report on welfare reform last November in reaction to the report drawn up by welfare reform commission chairman Joseph Schembri.
