The Valletta Rehabilitation Project is proposing that the Melchiorre Cafà statue of St Paul and the procession of St Paul in Valletta should form part of a trans-boundary nomination to UNESCO for World Heritage status, VRP co-ordinator Ray Bondin said.
Dr Bondin, who was speaking at a seminar on Cafà organised by the University of Malta and the VRP, said the VRP was giving a lot of importance to the appreciation of local artists and works of art as part of an effort to increase awareness and appreciation of local heritage.
He said the protection of local heritage improved when more is known about it.
Dr Bondin said the statue of St Paul was the best known work of this important Maltese artist in Malta and as such it deserved to be given more attention.
