I would like to express my solidarity with author Alex Vella Gera and his wife in view of the unfair scrutiny they are being subjected to.

Common sense would lead you to think of Tal-Qroqq as our country's cradle of freedom of expression and social activism. Fat chance. One also wonders what has become of fellow authors, academics and literati.

Why so silent? Where are their letters of condemnation? Dealing with the problematic logistics of being an author/publisher in Malta is difficult enough without dragging self-indulgent moralisms into the fray.

We need to put a swift end to this Mc Carthysm once and for all.
