I am writing to congratulate the mayor and local council of Birkirkara on very generously having conceded to me and to the other residents of Birkirkara's village core not one but two consecutive car-free days.

As usual the local council is very efficient at organising social activities that result in the closure of all the roads in the area around the church of St Helen.

It would appear that the council considers social activities that inconvenience the residents to be of greater importance than cleaning up the locality, which every day begins to resemble more and more a large rubbish dump.

I wonder, are any of the council members resident in the area in which the roads are usually closed? Do any of the council members ever take a walk around the locality to count the number of bins available (all around the church - one bin!) and to check whether the locality is being kept clean?
