I refer to the letter by Charles V. Sammut.

Mr Sammut has asked for an explanation as to why "a significant fraction" of the mail placed in his letter box during Christmas was clearly addressed to other people residing elsewhere. He adds that this has been happening for the last couple of years.

I will assume that Mr Sammut will have reported this problem to his local branch or to customer care during this two-year period. If my assumption is correct, it appears we are at fault and apologies are in order. Perhaps Mr Sammut could kindly contact me on 2596 1240 and I undertake personally to attend to his complaint.

He has also commented about a letter posted in London and which he says he received after a considerable delay. Mr Sammut should note that Maltapost adopts a "clear floor" policy with regard to all incoming foreign mail, meaning we process, sort and deliver immediately. Recent delays, too numerous to mention, are therefore not of our making.

As to Mr Sammut's remark regarding our earlier statement that Maltapost is still awaiting a reply from Air Malta regarding recent problems, the investigation is nearing conclusion and we hope to issue our findings shortly.

I trust this clarifies matters.
