The Water Services Corporation (WSC) has announced a 7,000 square metres expansion of its solar farm rollout funded by the Green Bonds programme.

In a statement, WSC said that in a “significant milestone” of its €25 million, 10-year bond programme, the solar farm expansion could increase the peak capacity of the facilities to 1,400 kWp (kilowatt peak).

New solar farms in Luqa, Ċirkewwa, Pembroke and Bulebel were also commissioned by the company.

It said the expansion would be achieved without exceeding the original €6 million allocated for the project under the bond programme.

In a later statement, the company clarified the additional panels would be located on the roofs of existing reservoirs and not on new sites.

The bond was launched in July 2023 and is open to both institutional and retail investors with an interest rate of 4.25%. It is guaranteed by WSC and issued by its subsidiary Clearflowplus plc.

The company said it had also launched a website allowing the public to track updates on projects financed by the bond.
