Sewage which overflowed into the sea at Gzira this morning is being pumped out and the surrounding area is being disinfected, the Waster Services Corporation said.

It said the overflow was caused by damage to the main sewer. Urgent repairs are under way and expected to be completed later today.

Works for this main to be replaced will be completed by the end of the month.
