Xghajra power cable damaged

Enemalta Corporation said that a fault in an underground high voltage cable that supplied electricity to Xghajra disrupted the service in the locality on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the cable had been damaged earlier during trenching works that had been undertaken in connection with some drainage works in il-Fortizza tal-Grazzja Street, in Xghajra.

Although it was not known who caused the damage, the corporation reported the matter to the police for further investigations to be carried out, the corporation said.

The corporation said the cable repair works had been delayed because the cable was found covered in concrete.

The electricity service in Xghajra was expected to be restored late yesterday evening.
