Xlendi swimming ban lifted, new ban in part of Marsascala

A warning was issued a week ago

A ban on swimming in Xlendi Bay was lifted on Monday.

The Environmental Health Directorate said that several samples of seawater lifted from the bay had confirmed the sea was safe to swim in.

The ban was imposed a week ago after a heavy downpour flooded a valley which flows into the bay.

The directorate, however, announced a ban on swimming at Fajtata, Marsascala owing to an overflow of foul water in the vicinity of the public toilets.

Officials are currently investigating the source of contamination. At this stage, the duration of the contamination cannot be predicted, the directorate said.
