Met Office issues yellow wind warning

Windspeeds will reach between Force 5 and 6 today

Updated 9.28pm

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as winds are expected to climb up to between Force 5 and 6, equivalent to between 29 and 49 kilometres per hour.

“The East Northeast to Northeast wind will be strong over the exposed areas of the Maltese islands”, the Met Office said.

The warning is in place until 3am on Wednesday morning.

Force 5 and 6 winds are classified as ‘fresh’ and ‘strong’ breezes on the Beaufort Wind Scale, respectively.

A yellow weather warning is the least severe, meaning low-level impact, with orange indicating a higher risk, and red warning people to take action to keep themselves safe.

Today is forecast to be windy with isolated showers, with windspeeds expected to reduce to between Force 2 and 3 tomorrow.

Similar conditions to today are expected to return Thursday, when winds are anticipated to reach Force 6 and the country is expected to see more isolated showers – conditions liable to continue over the following days, according to the Malta International Airport website.
