Kenneth Wain's Good Science, Bad Morals And Entrenchment (August 18) was thought provoking.

He called the proposed entrenchment of our anti-abortion legislation into the Constitution "an open attempt to put a block to the freedom of future generations to decide for themselves on their morality and way of life".

According to this line of thought, it would follow that practically the entire Constitution is intended to bind future generations. The right to own property has long been firmly entrenched in the Constitution. The majority of the Maltese concur with this fundamental right and nobody raised an eyebrow about future generations thinking differently. So why are we creating a problem with the right to life of the unborn?

The vast majority of the Maltese cherish this right and this needs to be expressly protected by our Constitution, like all other fundamental human rights.

If by the proposed entrenchment of our rent laws, state requisition of private property will be a thing of the past, the entrenchment will be a step in the right direction. Future generations will not regret it.
