The Zabbar local council has approved a motion in which the majority of councillors agreed that the proposed development at the Marsascala recycling plant will cause big damage to Zabbar and the surrounding localities.

The council said the motion, approved at its February 3 meeting, highlighted the negative impact on the environment and on public health, the increase in the traffic flow in the area and the negative financial and economic impact.

The council said it believed that once the existing plant is to be demolished, the new one should not be built on the proposed site but the government should consider a more adequate location that would not be detrimental to the public's health.
